Color of the Year: Try Something New, “Mocha Mousse,” & Accessorizing the Trend

There is something to be said for Pantone doing extensive market research to release what they predict will be a trending color palette for the year. Sometimes, the color is an absolute personal favorite and gives us a nod to go all out on clothing, wall color, jewelry, and even color choices of our vehicles and flowering plants in our gardens. And, of course, when our favorites are chosen as the trend, that satisfyingly reinforces our savior-faire when it comes to personal color palette preferences!

When the Color of the Year is something that, perhaps, is not our favorite, or something we would not have thought of, this is where creative opportunity truly knocks; to think outside of our personal boxes. In other words, t’s a great time to explore new tones and hues to incorporate in our everyday lives!

Am I suggesting that your entire world becomes brown? Absolutely not. But, try a few key mocha pieces, and then accent that with complimentary colors. Various shades of brown will have undertones ranging from warm yellows to cooler reds and blues. So, for example, a warmer tone like leopard print will be beautifully complimented with various shades of blue. So, if you have turquoise-y accent wall, try adding leopard print pillows, or if you’re wearing a leopard print, add a blue bag, or jewelry!

As with all trends, there is no need to go out and buy an entire new wardrobe or repaint all of your walls. Instead, have fun and try out a few new accessories that are friendly to your budget, or paint a warm, moody mocha accent wall that you know you will enjoy for years to come.
